OPEN Ladies State Championships 2026 Information and registration

Townsville Hockey has along standing history of success at the HQ Open State Championships and prides itself in sending the highest quality Men and Ladies teams away annually. In 2026 the HQ Championships will return as a combined male and female event and run across the May Day long weekend 1st- 4th May in Brisbane.

Selections for the Ladies team will be run in conjunction with the club preseason, Hawthorn Shield preparations as well as any trials and scheduled training sessions for the registered group. Players aged 18+ are encouraged to nominate.

Coaching staff will be announced as soon as possible following discussion and review from THA representatives. Teams will follow the THA selection process with club representatives and appointed coaches being released with BOM ratification as soon as possible.

Trials/Trainings are scheduled during the Representative Turf allocation on Monday nights starting Monday 9th March with more definite details to be confirmed once registrations and staff are solidified.
Please note additional sessions may be included if the coaching and playing group see fit.

As you can appreciate Hawthorn Shield (11 - 12th April) & the State Championships (1st - 4th May) are early in the hockey calendar so it is imperative you try your best to register ASAP and attend all trials/trainings where possible and please let coaching staff know if you are unavailable.

This year Hawthorn Shield is in Cairns so the OPEN team will be expected to travel and compete in Cairns (11-12th April) to best prepare.

As mentioned the Open State Championships are in Brisbane and will run 1st - 4th May. Team accommodation has been booked and the Men will stay as a team for the entirety of the championships, travel to and from the fields will be also be organised. However, it is the families responsibility to organise travel arrangements to arrive no later than 2pm Thursday 30th April and on the final day players will be released by 2pm on Sunday 4th May.

Historically Townsville has performed well against Cairns and at the HQ Open Ladies tournament, so we look forward to preparing and sending a quality united team in 2026.
